Valle d'Aosta

Grosjean is a company that has been working with the land and its fruits for generations. Grosjean, however, is, first of all, a family: our family, made up of people. Because, as in all things, it is the human factor that makes the difference.

In 2011 the leap in quality: by mutual agreement we opted for the Organic conversion. In 2018, this excellent example of renewed excellent Valle d'Aosta viticulture passes into the hands of the third generation Grosjean: Hervé, Simon, Mathieu, Didier, Josianne and son-in-law Marco inherited the mandate.

La Vrille winery is located in the municipality of Verrayes, in the center of the Aosta Valley, at an altitude of 670 meters above sea level. Situated along the route of the "Via Francigena," in the heart of the Aosta Valley vineyards, its terraces offer a splendid view of Mont Avic and Mont Emilius. La Vrille is a small, three-hectare winery. The vineyards are positioned in a natural amphitheater, with south/southeast exposure, surrounding the cellar. The work in the vineyards aims to respect nature. Care and attention to the soil are at the forefront of the good health of the plant. The soil is worked mainly by hand, with little mechanization. Treatments are reduced to a minimum, also thanks to ancillary processes that allow for strong plants and conditions unfavorable to disease. The products used are allowed in organic farming.

Elio Ottin's adventure began in 1989 as a young man, unafraid of dreaming. After completing his studies at Institut Agricole Regional at the age of 23, he acquired his first plots of land situated between the municipalities of Quart and Saint-Christophe. Due to the acute gradients and coarse-grained soil, this virgin ground was difficult to work. Nevertheless, in a relatively short time he managed to transform this terrain into ‘terroir’ which provided all the minerals and verticality that hallmark his domaine wines and form the true heritage of Valdostan mountain wines.

In 1999 Elio made what turned out to be the most important and best decision of his life deciding to lead the company into expansion and the farmland quickly grew to a total of 13 hectares which comprised 4 hectares of vineyard, 4 hectares of apple orchards and 5 hectares of grazing land. 2007 thus became year zero in which he produced a total number of 30 thousand bottles, including three types of wine: Petite Arvine, Pinot Noir and Torrette Superieur.

If there is a winemaker that almost precisely embodies the aspiration and the passion of a true dreamer, this must be Piantagrossa.

Piantagrossa is a super small, super young vigneron founded in 2013 by Luciano Zoppo Ronzero, back then a manager of a multination company. Nevertheless, the seed of history and tradition was already there: Luciano grew up in Donnas, Valle d’Aosta, surrounded by small winegrowers, rooted since generations in the poetry of the heroic winemaking of the alps of Valle D’Aosta.
There, since he was a young child, absorbed and learned the secrets of the trade that remained as regret and a dream until he decided to go back. It is how Piantagrossa was born: 2 hectares of vineyards, perched on the incredibly steep slopes of the Donnas and St-Martin Mountains at 450/500 meter above sea level, held up by the 500 years old drywalls from where everything has to be done manually. Piantagrossa produces Nebbiolo and in smallest quantities other indigenous grapes, like Fumin, Vien de Nus, Neyret and Freisa.

Giovanni Abrigo is an authentic family-run winery and have been cultivating the land and promoting the products of the Langhe since 1968.

The winery is located in the hills of Diano d’Alba, in the heart of the "sori", facing the hill of Diano d'Alba. Towards the middle of the 1980s, Giorgio Abrigo the son of Goivanni having completed his studies in agronomy, became involved in the cultivation of the hazelnut groves and vineyards, which were planted in the areas of the estate with the exposure and most suitable soils. And then Paola, Giorgio’s wife, began working for the family business too, promoting the commercial development of the wines and the company identity, which, little by little, became what the Abrigo Giovanni Azienda Agricola we know today. The house farm has the right position in the sun, the right microclimate and a very special and unique terroir which has everything that is needed to offer the best wines as a fantastic Barolo DOCG called Ravera, the particular Dolcetto di Diano d’Alba DOCG and also a very fruity and pleasant Barbera d’Alba DOC.

Located in the heart of Langhe, on the hills of Barolo town, “Bric Cenciurio” in Piedmontese dialect means “top of the Cenciurio hill”.

The winery currently has 10 hectares under vine including its Roero property. It is planted to Arneis, Barbera, and Nebbiolo d’Alba. The Nebbiolo for Bric Cenciuros world famous Barolo grows in the two-hectare plot in the prestigious Coste di Rose Cru property. The respect of the environment and biodiversity thanks to the minimal use of chemical products is a key element to the winery. As for the vinification, it is centred on the respect for the raw material from which the wine derives to interpret the individuality of each vineyard, and the work in the cellar is aided by century-old techniques passed down from one generation to the next.

Canevaro Luca story starts in 2016 as a branch of the old family farm. Today the company led by Luca has about 8 hectares of vineyards completely grown in certified organic farming . The family have chosen to focus on Derthona 100%  Timorasso and Monleale 100% Barbera, two symbolic wines of Colli Tortonesi. The area, is a hilly zone of lower Piedmont, between Lombardy and Liguria with an altitude that starts from 170m and reaches almost 500m. The hills are mainly divided by 3 rivers that forms the 3 three valleys, Val Curone, Valle Ossona and Val Grue, where the company is located. The Tortona hills have a very long wine history, which has its roots in vines such as Barbera, Croatina and Dolcetto, Cortese, Favorita, Moscato and, last but not least, the rediscovered ancient vine, Timorasso.

Elena e Giovanni continue, tenaciously and passionately, the project begun by their grandparents. It was precisely their ancestors who worked the surrounding lands from the 1920s.

Cascina Faletta was built in 1881. The winery is surrounded by vineyards: one document certifies that in as early as 1957 Faletta was awarded 500,000 Lire for being considered a winery of excellence.

Now, like then, the journey into the extraordinary world of wine continues. And, as it should be, every bottle is testimony to the past. Indigenous and international vines now produce whites, reds and sparkling wines obtained with the Classic Method. Every label has its history, like for example the sparkling wine, the Marchesa Virginia, in homage to the woman thought to be the Estate’s first owner. Then there is the Myricae white wine, named as such because the homonymous and very famous collection of poems by Giovanni Pascoli tells of life in the fields.

Together with Giuseppe Carosso, his sons Marco and Giovanni also work in the company today, helping to carry on a family tradition of over two centuries. Always attentive to respect for nature and the environment, we are convinced that the quality of a wine is born in the vineyard so we do not use herbicides and pesticides and we favour the birth and development of different types of herbs between the rows.

Each vine is considered as an individual to be interpreted and accompanied over the years, in order to express the uniqueness of the territory. Even in the cellar we follow every phase, from the initial selection and pressing to the packaging of every single bottle.

We do not use any herbicides or pesticides in our vineyards and hazelnut groves, in some of them we do not mow the grass. We believe in the importance of grassing, since only in this way can many herbaceous varieties grow.

We believe that in order to best express a terroir it is essential to work with old vines: the uniqueness and beauty of a vineyard are most evident with plants with very deep root systems.

Bottling takes place with the least possible use of sulfur dioxide, and, as usual, only during the days of a waning moon.

Ca' de Lion was founded in 1871 by Luigi Ghione. The winery takes the name of the family ancestor, Leone Ghione. Generations of expertise in Piemonte has elevated this artisanal producer to its highest level ever. Farming sustainably and naturally, the wines from this estate show purity of flavour. The depth and nuance of the wines vibrates and speaks of the place where they come from in the hills of Canelli, a village very well recognized for the production of Moscato d’Asti.

The winery is situated on the border between the provinces of Turin and Cuneo, in an area dominated by Monviso. Its inception traces back to an "autin," the Piedmontese term for a vineyard, nestled at the entrance to Val Pellice, a piece of land passed down through Mauro Camusso's family from his father and grandfather. In 2010, after years of managing a company that extracts and processes Luserna stone alongside his wife, Mauro, together with his cousin Pier Giorgio Gasca, decided to embrace the land's potential. They purchased new vineyards, giving rise to L'Autin. Their vision was to restore native Piedmontese vineyards while also introducing international grape varieties, placing their faith in the land's capabilities. Since its inception, the company has pursued a path of organic viticulture, becoming certified organic in 2019. Spanning nine hectares, the vineyards narrate the diverse terroirs of Piedmont. In the mines of Val Germanasca, known for producing the esteemed "white of the Alps" talc, the winery deepens its connection to the region by aging its Classic Method sparkling wines in man-made tunnels. These bottles rest in the mountain's depths for a minimum of thirty-six months, a testament to the winery's reverence for the land and its history.

The origin of the company dates back to 1974 with the purchase by the Fiamenghi family of 38 hectares of coppice, with a rustic annexe near the castle of Masino, from the Valperga Counts. The management is today in the hands of Franca Fiamenghi and her husband Roberto Gabriele, who personally follows the management of the vineyards, consisting of native vines such as Erbaluce di Caluso to obtain the production of Rosso Canavese DOC and Erbaluce di Caluso DOC wines, the passito and the classic method sparkling wine. La Campore has obtained the Masters of Taste recognition.

The “Poderi Garona” Winery is based on the centuries-old tradition of the Duella family and on a series of vineyards that arise in a territorial and climatic context of extraordinary singularity in Alto Piemonte on the Supervulcano del Sesia, a fossil volcano that collapsed about 280 million years. It is a small company that is investing in its properties by recovering land that was once vineyards. The soil is extremely suited to the cultivation of vines rich in mineral substances that allow the Nebbiolo, Vespolina and Uva Rara to extract a great minerality that is found in the glass and which distinguishes the Boca wine. The vineyards of Boca are protected by Monte Rosa and at the same time enjoy pedoclimatic conditions that allow, during the ripening period, an alternation of temperature changes between day and night that favor the development and concentration of sugars and varietal substances that characterize the future wine.

The area planted with vines is about 3 hectares, the largest vineyard has optimal exposure and develops at an average height of about 420m above sea level.

Poggio di Gavi's mission is simple but strong: to respect Gavi and bring its identity intact from the vineyard to the glass, revealing the expression of Cortese grapes from every single vineyard at their best, both in their still or sparkling versions.

This organic and biodynamic winery is located on top of the Lirano hills, 400 meters above sea level, on the border with the Barolo zone. The soil, from which the richness, power and elegance of tannins derive, it’s typical of Serralunga: calcareous and rich of clay, with the presence of marles. The winery extends on 15 hectares of vineyards.
Organic and biodynamic practices are the means, not the result. At the moment the producer doesn’t know the map, but he knows the direction: clear, well defined. Rivetto is also doing vinification in amphoras and terracotta: a new way to understand the evolution and the shelf life of their wines!
He produces very high-quality wines. For the red wines the typical denomination of the area as Barbera d’Alba, Nebbiolo, Barbaresco and different Barolos: Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d’Alba, Barolo Briccolina and Barolo Leon Riserva, to allow tasting of different crus and vintages. The Carema wine tradition is the basis of the development of Sorpasso. Climate change will be at the centre of viticultural evolution and the solution to this will be biodiversity in the vineyard, which is very rich in our territory. For this reason, all the vineyards of Sorpasso contain various percentages of minor native vines.

In 2007 at the age of 27, I decided to quit my job in nearby Switzerland and dedicate myself to my true passion, my land. So I withdrew the small family business, of just one hectare of vineyard and one hectare of apples; from day one I set to work with pride and with the desire to do high-quality things. This is where my company is born.

Having said that, I currently grow about four hectares of apple orchards and two of vineyards. My intentions were immediately clear; do something important for this territory full of asperity that does not give you anything without effort, but if you work with passion, it can give you a lot of satisfaction. So from my small vineyard I decided to bring out all the best of this land and, working based on quality and not quantity, I decided to build a cellar and make a little wine, but a great wine.

The winery is located at an altitude of 750 m.s.l.m. on the Rhaetian bank of the Alps, 2 km from Tirano in the hamlet of Baruffini, precisely Cà Bianche, where there is also the grapes I produce.

The "La Spia" label was born among the Valtellina vineyards, the name of which is linked to the homonymous rocky ridge located in the Sassella sub-area. In 1962 the ownership of the wood in the hills passed to the Rigamonti family, which assigned it to the cultivation of Nebbiolo grapes, of the Chiavennasca biotype. In recent years, La Spia changes its production register, passing from just under 5,000 to over 15,000 bottles produced.

The company takes over small vineyards selected in the neighbouring sub-areas.

Climate and soil, two main elements to make Valtellina a territory suited to viticulture. On these slopes, the rows of courtyards arranged in the terraces remain an ancient and functional system that has made the current Valtellina viticulture possible, one of the largest terraced mountain areas in Europe.

A historic house surrounded by an 8-hectare vineyard, belonging to a Venetian family that counts Doges among its members, boasts a direct lineage and entrepreneurial spirit. This is the challenge undertaken by Giovanna, the second of five sisters, who has dedicated herself with passion and determination.

Here, grapes have been ripening since the 13th century, nurtured by the strength of women. Nestled between two-columned porches of a Palladian Villa, we find ourselves in the eastern part of the DOC Breganze area, at the foothills of Mount Castellaro and the beginning of the Asiago Plateau. Mount Grappa looms in the background, while the Brenta River flows to our right. Surrounded by gentle hills and ancient olive groves, in a landscape reminiscent of 19th-century postcards, LEVIEANGARANO produces excellent wines.

Thanks to a sharp temperature contrast between night and day, coupled with the morning wind blowing from North to South like the gentle wing beats of migrating birds, a microclimate conducive to preserving varietal integrity is formed in this unique vineyard. Le Vie Angarano is Certified Organic and adheres to biodynamic principles. Vine pruners are trained in the Simonit & Sirch method, ensuring that pruning respects and preserves the health of the plants.

The love for the land, the passion for authenticity, the work of years that has been handed down from generation to generation and the will to always give the best: it is thanks to all this that today Corte Moschina has become a worthy representative of a sincere Italian spirit.

A gentle land that holds years of history made up of volcanic eruptions and nature as far as the eye can see. At the foot of the Lessini Mountains stands Corte Moschina, an ancient Venetian property from the end of the 16th century which is the home of the family, but which is also a symbol of passion, tradition and the future. The diversity of vineyards in the area enriches the history and work of the family even more. From Roncà with the vineyards of Garganega and Durella, to the international blends of the Berici Hills, to the vineyards of Valpolicella, everything from Corte Moschina smells good.

Valpolicella is not only a Territory, it’s the real expression of an area of high-quality viticulture, based on specific types of soil, unique climate and their interaction with the vines. The complexity of the Valpolicella terroir is confirmed by the production of elegant wines. The area is full of history in the production of indigenous varieties with a unique vinification leading to four distinctly different wines: Valpolicella, Ripasso, Amarone and Recioto. A wide range of wines, from young and fruity style to those with great structure and long ageing potential. Fabio and Paolo Zenato found inspiration in the land's rich history to take on the ambitious project of producing wines in the Valpolicella with the highest standard of quality in viticulture and winemaking. Together with the experience of winegrowers in the heart of Valpolicella territory, they created the ideal synergies for two wines under the brand: Corte Volponi, Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso and Amarone Classico DOCG.

Tenuta Natalina Grandi recounts the passion that has been carried forward from father to son for centuries in the municipality of Gambellara, and it is represented today by Giovanni Framarin and his sons Luca, Lisa and Valentina. The production takes place in the ten hectares of land owned in the province of Vicenza, divided between Gambellara and Lonigo, between hills and plains.

The spirit that animates daily works is linked to love for the earth, its fruits and high-quality production. The grapes are processed entirely in purity with a biological production chain and are harvested manually by using bins. All processes related to winemaking, sparkling, and bottling takes place entirely in the company and is managed directly by the Framarin family. The tasting tells the story of the vineyard, the territory, the grape harvest and the production to reach the glass.

The winery Reassi extends over an area of about 6 hectares in Colli Euganei, totally devoted to organic vineyards. Since Roman times vineyards have acted as a protagonist of the cultivation of the volcanic slopes of the Euganean Hills. The geological composition of these ancient volcanic cones is incredibly rich and diverse. Sedimentary limestone of marine origin lies below the unique Euganean marls, which cover the volcanic subsoils formed during the last period of volcanic activity, rich in basalt, which gives to their wines personality and typicity.

Trentino-Alto Adige

We are in Alto Adige and the noble family lives in a Castel that dates back to 15th century, owned by the same noble family since the 17th century and belong to the Asburgic Empire till when it was a reality in this side of “Italy”. The owner is now a “Conte” and he runs with the wife and an enologist famous in the area, this winery and Castel. The 13 hectare estate is located directly around the castle with 7 hectares of vineyards. Wine has been cultivated here by the counts Khuen-Belasi since 1640. Englar wines are made exclusively with grapes from these very vineyards and are processed and bottled directly on the estate, producing: Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer,Vernatsch and Pinot Noir. What surprised me is the harmony of these wines, most of whom are fermented in open wooden “tini” and aged for long time in barrels and wood. A balance between acidity, freshness, tannins and flavours that makes this area a dominant Region of Italian viticulture.

From the 2022 harvest the wines are certified with the SQNPI mark (National Quality System of Integrated Production) that guarantee the use of agronomic and cellar techniques that respect the environment and human health.

The company's history started in the second half of Nineteenth Century, when the Medici family owned a small inn where they also produced wine. Remigio Medici decided to open up to the future starting the winery "Remigio Medici e Figli" toghether with his sons. The winery had immediately great success, in fact in the 1911 it received the meaningful Menzione d'Onore (Honorable Mention) and the Medaglia d'Oro Croce al Merito (the Gold Medal Cross to the Merit) at the International Expo in Rome. Throughout its long tradition, Medici family has always selected grapes coming from the best suitable areas. The strength of the company is and has always been the family, that today is represented by the generations, the fourth teaching to the fifth.

The company was born from the idea of 4 friends to bring back into production and to convert to an organic old Verdicchio vineyard of about 50 years now abandoned and no longer pruned for a long time with a total extension of 20 hectares and with a farmhouse to be restored in San Marcello between Jesi and Morro d'Alba. The work was really demanding, but the winery has been able to preserve and restore 7.5 hectares to correct production and Verdicchio and Lacrima di Morro d’Alba were replanted to complete the range of local native DOC products.
The company was three years in biological conversion and from the 2018 harvest, 100% of the production is certified organic. Filodivino has chosen to embrace tradition by strongly believing in the two indigenous vines par excellence of the area between Jesi and Senigallia, the Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi DOC and the Lacrima di Morro D'Alba DOC, both full of potential, with a strong character, expression of a tradition open to the progress of Italian viticulture.

The House of Mazziotti was founded in Bolsena in 1900 by Gerardo Mazziotti. Italo Mazziotti followed in his father’s footsteps, giving impetus to the growth of the House. As with his father, Italo was challenged to produce wine to meet the highest standards of quality.

One of Italo’s major achievements was the planting of a vineyard located in the area where the “Est Est Est di Montefiascone” had its origins. This hilly section is surrounded by deciduous woods which contribute greatly to the favourable climate for the vineyard. The vines face the afternoon sun and the volcanic soils are especially rich in potassium and phosphorus.

The vineyard has a surface of 28 hectares. Only grapes grown in the privately-owned vineyard are used by the House of Mazziotti and the grapes are handpicked and gathered in small 25 kilo containers.

After the passing of Italo Mazziotti his daughter Flaminia is at the helm of the family winery, continuing in the tradition of a quality for which the House of Mazziotti has become known. Currently, Flaminia’s daughter Valeria is operating the House as well in a continuous renewal of the farm and the products.

The history of the Caprai winery began more than 50 years ago, in 1971, when Arnaldo Caprai, Cavaliere del Lavoro achieved for merits in agriculture, decided to invest in wine production in Montefalco, purchasing the first forty-five hectares of land. In 1988, the company was taken over by his son Marco, who, with great passion, involved the University of Milan in a research project to promote Sagrantino, an indigenous Montefalco grape variety with enormous qualitative potential.

For Arnaldo Caprai, time has always represented a constant propensity and push for innovation. In the past it was this approach that allowed us to enhance the value of Sagrantino thanks to the adoption of modern agronomic and oenological management systems capable of exalting the quality of this extraordinary grape. And we continue this into the present where our innovation takes the form of continuous activities of experimentation with precision farming tools, at the service of a sustainable business model.

In viticulture, there is no end point, the future will always belong to those who look ahead, and for Caprai, time has created and defined a space to be lived in, between research and continuous experimentation.

Not only a beautiful winery but a great person too.

Valentino Valentini is the owner of this winery and he has also been Major of Montefalco for ten years. He puts the same ethic, honesty and transparency he has in its life into the wine, which has no yeasts and enzymes, no stabilization and filtration. The great attention to these processes are giving great recognizability to one of the fullest wine in Italy, the Sagrantino DOCG, a powerful, rich and natural-bodied wine, and to the Montefalco DOC, smooth and full at the same time. About the white wine Trebbiano Spoletino? Somebody told: the best wine I ever had!

Their own 15 hectares of vineyards are located between the hill and the sea of San Vito Chietino, in the heart of Trabocchi Coast, where unique characteristics of soil and microclimate give rise to grapes and wines of a particular identity.

The family follows in person the whole production line, from vineyards to bottles, firmly believing in the idea that "good wine is made in the vineyard", and this conviction is the core of vineyard and cellar operating choices.

Finally, the choice of photovoltaics for the production of electricity, a clean and renewable source, represents Amarano's commitment to respect for the environment.

Vinosia was born in 2004, based on a concrete project, but also on an idea, a style, guided by a single desire, that is to celebrate the land that hosts us, while remaining at the service of its most precious fruits. In the summer the two big families used to spend a lot of time together in the countryside in Ascoli Satriano at Masseria Volpone. The fruit of our land is cultivated in the territory of the ancient Herdonia, the first hill on the Tavoliere delle Puglie. This is the sunniest, driest and the windiest area in Italy. Out a total of 50 hectares, 40 hectares of vineyards are spread out over an area that benefits from a mild, semidry climate, between 400 and 600 meters above sea level, with significant variations between day and night.  In addition, 2 hectares have been set aside for the production of olive oil. Generazione Alessandro is the project of three cousins – Benedetto, Anna and Benedetto – who for several years, together with their fathers, have been running the family winery in the province of Palermo. Strengthened by their path in the Alessandro di Camporeale company and with the wealth of skills acquired, they decided to develop a new project on Etna, a territory with unique characteristics in the world, to give life to wines with a strong identity.

The presence of several vineyards in different positions allows us to tell, through the wines, the history of these places and the microclimatic and geomorphological variations that characterize the territory. The company extends for about ten hectares on the north-east side of the volcano.

The vineyards fall on plots which, although very close together, have different geomorphological and microclimatic characteristics, profoundly influencing the yield of the grapes. The ancient millstone houses the vinification cellar.

From the production of citrus fruit and the harvesting of blossoms from which, through ancient techniques, precious essential oils can be obtained to be used in cosmetic, pharmaceutical and confectionery preparations, until the turning point of Limoncello in the 1990s (the first to be produced directly in Sicily), the Russo family has transformed its company without relinquishing its spirit, drawing on the intuitions brought by the kind of experience that only daily work in the fields, generation after generation, can teach. Limonio’s range of liqueurs, which today includes 10 offerings, is made with nothing but Palermo ‘s finest and most prized produce – lemons, oranges, mandarins, mulberries, prickly pears and laurel, all farmed organically in the family’s estate of Partinico, and ingredients such as coffee, cocoa and cinnamon all sourced from a small number of carefully selected producers.

Atlantis Berchidda is part of the “Società Agricola Sannitu” agricultural enterprise. We are a family-run business in Berchidda and own vineyards covering some 15 hectares – primarily for Vermentino di Gallura grapes. We are located close to the Emerald Coast and within the “Vermentino di Gallura” triangle, which is formed by the towns surrounding Mount Limbara – Berchidda, Monti and Tempio Pausania.

The land here is perfectly suited to wine-growing, with sandy soils thanks to a high granite content. Combined with the salty wind from the sea, this creates the ideal micro-climate for the vines grown to produce Sardinia’s only wine in the prestigious DOCG classification, “Vermentino di Gallura”.
Berchidda is also home to the famous “Time in Jazz” festival, featuring jazz trombonist Paolo Fresu as founder and director.
