Valle D'Aoste

OTTIN WINERY:

In 1989 Elio Ottin was an intrepid young man, unafraid of dreaming. After completing his studies at Institut Agricole Regional (Regional Agricultural School) at the age of 23, he acquired his first plots of land situated between the municipalities of Quart and Saint-Christophe. Due to the acute gradients and coarse-grained soil, this virgin ground was difficult to work. Nevertheless, in a relatively short time he managed to transform this terrain into ‘terroir’ which provided all the minerals and verticality that hallmark his domaine wines and form the true heritage of Valdostan mountain wines.

In 1999 Elio made what turned out to be the most important and best decision of his life deciding to led the company into expansion and the farmland quickly grew to a total of 13 hectares which comprised 4 hectares of vineyard, 4 hectares of apple orchards and 5 hectares of grazing land. 2007 thus became year zero in which he produced a total number of 30 thousand bottles, including three types of wine: Petite Arvine, Pinot Noir and Torrette Superieur. His dream had come true.

 CASCINA ALBERTA WINERY:

In the Langhe Area, in Treiso, we found Cascina Alberta farm, which occupies a total of 19 hectares, a great project thats started from the passion and love for the wine of two brothers, who decided to renovate the old vineyards through sustainable viticolture without the use of pesticides and herbicides.

The work done in the vineyard is meticulous, without an excessive reduction in productivity, depending on the vintage production varies from 5,500 to 7,000 kilograms. They want their vineyards to be gardens, so they let the grass grow free, cutting it only when it gets too lush. During spring in wet years, the grass helps the ground to absorb the excess water, allowing better drainage and avoiding water logging. They believe it is fundamental to respect the ecosystem, minimising human intervention with the aim of recreating that equilibrium in the ground and in the plants that allows the vines to become strong and flourishing.

The work in the cellar follows the philosophy of the Langhe tradition, with extensive maceration in stainless steel vats. Ageing takes place in large Slavonian oak barrels - 2500/5000 l

CASCINA FALETTA WINERY:

Elena e Giovanni continue, tenaciously and passionately, the project begun by their grandparents. It was precisely their ancestors who worked the surrounding lands from the 1920s. Indigenous and international vines now produce whites, reds and sparkling wines.

Cascina Faletta was built in 1881. The winery is surrounded by vineyards: one document certifies that in as early as 1957 Faletta was awarded 500,000 Lire for being considered a winery of excellence. Now, like then, the journey into the extraordinary world of wine continues. And, as it should be, every bottle is testimony to the past. Indigenous and international vines now produce whites, reds and sparkling wines obtained with the Classic Method. Every label has its history, like for example the sparkling wine, the Marchesa Virginia, in homage to the woman thought to be the Estate’s first owner. Then there is the Myricae white wine, named as such because the homonymous and very famous collection of poems by Giovanni Pascoli tells of life in the fields.

The vineyard has a surface of 28 hectares.

Only grapes grown in the privately-owned vineyard are used by the House of Mazziotti and the grapes are hand picked and gathered in small 25 kilo containers.

After the passing of Italo Mazziotti  his daughter Flaminia is at the helm of the family winery, continuing in the tradition of a quality for which the House of Mazziotti has become known. Currently Flaminia’s daughter Valeria is operating the House as well in a continuous renewal of the farm and the products.

PODERI MARINI WINERY:

The central value of this family business is represented by the deep respect by which it wants to relate to the land, the people and the environment in which it operates. An environment in which the Marini’s Company evolves for the past 300 years! The original nucleus was born for the olive cultivation and the production of the oil, and still today, on the total area of about 300 hectares, 130 are olive-yards. Then 35 hectares were used for the production of the Calabria’s Clementine, flagship product of the regional agriculture, protected by CTM pgi. (communitary trade-mark). In 2003 Marini enriched the offer again focusing on vitinicoltura quality. 7 hectares of vineyards were planted in clay and hilly terrain at about 500m sea level and it was built a new winery. With this busyness the Company Marini Farms returns to discovering, interpreting it in a modern way, a tradition present in this area since ancient times. The assortment of variety vines includes the native Aglianico and Magliocco and the international Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, for reds, and Chardonnay and Sauvignon for whites.  In the vineyard and in the winery has adopted the productive method of biological farming. All this choices testify the constant guidance of Marini towards advanced technologies, quality products in the deep respect for the tradition and the environment.
